Patrick Gambaroís long and prestigious Wall Street career spanned in excess of 45 years, concluding with his retirement from the position of EVP/ Chief Operating Officer at the New York Board of Trade (NYBOT). NYBOT, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Intercontinental Exchange (NYSE:ICE), the leading electronic energy marketplace, is the worldís leading exchange for soft commodities. For well over a century, NYBOT has provided reliability, integrity and security in a global marketplace for the trading of commodity products such as cocoa, coffee, cotton, ethanol, orange juice, wood pulp, and sugar as well as currency and index futures and options.
Mr. Gambaro received accolades for his instrumental role in developing NYBOTís Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plan, which have become the model throughout the world for corporate preparedness. After the first terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in 1993, he began developing NYBOTís recovery plan. As a result of these efforts, NYBOT began leasing space from Comdisco, a renowned disaster recovery services group, at its Long Island City, New York site. Due to the events on September 11, 2001, the exchangeís World Trade Center trading floor and back office facilities was completely destroyed. NYBOTís disaster recovery site allowed the exchange to continue its commodity operations with only minimal delay. At the time of the 9/11 attacks, NYBOT was the only open outcry exchange worldwide with a back-up trading facility and business continuity plan.
As a result of his foresight, Mr. Gambaro has become a recognized authority on business continuity, and he has been featured in over 200 print and television news stories in publications such as the Wall Street Journal and the Financial Times, as well as CNBC and BBC Worldwide television. He has provided testimony at various CFTC hearings relating to industry disaster recovery. He has also been the keynote speaker at numerous conventions around the globe.
